Peace In The Storm

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)

Good Morning!

We are in the midst of “the most wonderful time of the year.” It’s a time of celebration and joy. However, sometimes in the middle of our planned celebrations, storms can arise. Have you ever noticed how storms sometime arrive at the worst possible moment? Are you facing one of those storms right now? I want to take the next few days to help you experience peace as your reality so that you can enjoy this season AND conquer your storms. (If you’re not facing a storm, forward this email to someone who is.)

Peace is not dependent on your surroundings. Experiencing peace as your reality comes from knowing that God has given you His peace. In John 14:27, Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” The very peace that Jesus operated in is on the inside of you. Why is that a big deal? Check out this passage below.

As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”

Mark 4:35-41 (NLT)

In the middle of an invisible windstorm, Jesus was asleep on the boat. The peace that allowed Jesus to sleep during a storm is on the inside of you now. Notice this: before Jesus used His authority to stop the storm, He was at peace. The wind and the waves didn’t disturb Him. Everyone else was terrified and were questioning if Jesus cared for them at all. In the middle of your storm, don’t question if God cares about you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. As 1 Peter 5:7 reminds us, we are to cast all of our care upon Him because He cares for us. We cast our cares upon Him because He is our caretaker and always takes care of us in grand style.

As I reminded you on Monday, remember that you have peace with God. Come to Him with every problem. Turn to Him anytime anxiety and stress try to grab a hold of your heart and mind. He loves you. He is with you. His will toward you is good. You also have the peace of God. From this place of peace, you will be able to take your authority and quell the storms of your life.
