What To Do When You Need "Double Patience"

“strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;”

Colossians 1:11 (NKJV)

Good Morning!

Have you ever felt like you needed “double patience?” Have you ever prayed, “Lord, give me more patience?” Did it work? The life we are called to live takes supernatural perseverance which actually belongs to you as a believer in Jesus. The Colossians 1 prayer reveals the importance of this perseverance and endurance. However, this patience must be developed and is connected to the strength of God within your heart.

Before we go forward, I want to thank all of you who have filled out our Faith in the Morning survey so far! As of this Spring, the Faith in the Morning podcast devotional has been streaming for four years. In just a few short weeks, we will stream our 1,000th episode! As we go beyond 1,000, I created a one minute to survey to help us learn more about how you access the Faith in the Morning devotional and newsletter. Can you fill out this quick survey for me? If you complete the survey, you will be entered into a special giveaway that is connected to our 1000th episode! Thank you for filling out the survey and helping us take Faith in the Morning into the future!

In Prayers That Will Change Your Life, I shared more about the Colossians 1 prayer and what Paul meant as he prayed this prayer for the church.

In praying this way, Paul is praying that the Believer has every type of patience and endurance that they need. With both words of patience and long-suffering pointing towards endurance and perseverance, the Believer is not supposed to be a wishy-washy person that is easily moved from their course or purpose. Paul is praying that these Believers live suitable lives that fulfill the call of God on their lives. In living a full life fulfilling the call of God, the Believer will run into challenges that will make them want to quit, give-up, or depart the path God has called them to follow. In praying this prayer, Paul is praying that Believers will develop a never quit attitude. The Apostle is praying that Believers would be constant in their pursuit of what God has called them to do. The use of both words should give Believers the encouragement that they should have “double patience.” The patient endurance is not only for persevering through the challenges of life, but it is also for patiently enduring with other people. In order for the Believer to live the more excellent way of love, they must be patient with others. With “double patience,” the Believer should live a suitable life that develops a “never quit” attitude while loving others through being patience with them.

In this newsletter devotional, I’ve have recommended that you pray the Ephesians 1 prayer daily. There’s another prayer I want you to add to your daily time of prayer. It’s the Colossians 1 prayer (Colossians 1:9-14). It’s a prayer that will help you develop double patience, cause you to be strengthened, and grow in your “never quit” attitude.

Let’s pray it together today. Pray this prayer with me, “Father, I pray that you will fill me with the knowledge of your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; so that I might walk worthy of you, Lord, unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of you, strengthened with all might, according to your glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy. Father, I give you thanks for enabling me to be a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in light: you have delivered me from the power of darkness, and have translated me into the kingdom of Your dear Son: In Jesus I have redemption through His blood and the forgiveness of sins. I thank you for these things in Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

In our podcast devotional today, I share more about developing supernatural perseverance. Stream it and share it with a loved one, friend, or neighbor. Thank you for starting your day with Faith in the Morning. We love you and are praying for you. Have a miraculous day!
